MOC meetings are a time to discuss current outreach efforts, upcoming events, and ways we can continue serving military families in our community. If you’re interested in learning more or getting involved, we invite you to attend a meeting.

Military Outreach Committee: Supporting Military Kids

Twice a year, the Tierrasanta community and Murphy Canyon Chapel come together to serve those who serve us. Through local donations, we collect good-condition and like-new clothing to distribute to military families free of charge.

  • For Families: Come browse a wide selection of free children's apparel.

  • For Donors: We warmly accept gently used children's clothing to help keep this wonderful tradition going!

Donations accepted starting Sept. 8 at the Murphy Canyon Chapel and Sept. 14 at TLC and both close Sept 21.

 Volunteer Opportunities:

     9/21 CCF Sort/Fold at TLC Fellowship Hall 9:30 am – noon

               9/23 CCF Transport/Set-up at TLC/MCC 12:30 pm – 4:00 pm

Fall Military Appreciation Food Drive

Date & Time: 21 Nov 2026, 9:00 am – 10:30 am

In May and November, we host a food distribution for local area military families. With the sponsorship of congregation and community members, we distribute a food package that includes a bag of assorted food staples for the family and a $25 Commissary Gift Card in May, and in November the makings for a traditional Thanksgiving Day dinner plus a $25 Commissary Gift Card to purchase their meat of choice.

Volunteer Opportunities:

We have two opportunities for volunteers - helping to pack the food packages and the actual distribution of the food packages to the military families

REGISTRATION FOR MILITARY FAMILIES INTERESTED IN RECEIVING A FOOD PACKAGE WILL (27 Sept – 1 Nov 2026 ).  Registration is required to ensure no one is turned away.

STEP and Sharing The Joy!

TLC teams with STEP (Support The Enlisted Project) to support their annual Christmas Sharing the Joy Toy Drive and Adopt a Family projects. Each year STEP has over 200 local military families registering for “adoption” and while many are adopted, some are not. For those families, the toy drive ensures that the children of the non-adopted families “share the joy” of receiving Christmas toys. Boxes for toys will available in the church narthex.

Military Family Assistance Ministry

An opportunity to assist a military family in an extremis can occur at any time and we stand ready with helping hands to provide food, money, and transportation.

Volunteer Opportunities: If you are willing to be on call for transportation support, please contact Wayne Duke at 858-740-1068 via email at moc@tierrasantalutheran.org.

Donation: Monetary donation of any amount to support this ministry are welcomed and can be provided by check to Tierrasanta Lutheran Church with memo line note “MOC/FA”.

Wreaths Across America

Donations/Sponsorship: You can sponsor wreaths by going directly through Wreaths Across America by clicking the below (indicate the Miramar National Cemetery.

Volunteer Opportunities:

You are invited to join TLC members in placing the wreaths on the graves at the Miramar National Cemetery in mid December and removing them the first week of January.
