Music Ministry

Music is an integral part of our worship. For music is a way the gospel is told, a way we draw nearer to God, a way we express our love and devotion to God, and a way we share the song of God in our hearts.

Making a Joyful Sound to the Lord

Music is at the heart of worship at Tierrasanta Lutheran Church. Through voices, handbells, instruments, and contemporary music, our Music Ministry helps proclaim God's Word, enrich worship, and invite the congregation to raise a joyful song unto God.

Our musicians serve across generations and worship styles—from the traditional 8:30 a.m. service to contemporary GO Worship. Whether you love to sing, have a passion for ringing handbells, play an instrument, or simply want to discover how you can use your gifts, there is a place for you in our musical family.

Our Music Ministries

Vocal Choir

Our Vocal Choir offers anthems of praise and comfort during our 8:30 a.m. and Unity worship services.

We sing a wide variety of musical styles, from spirituals and Baroque music to Classical and Gospel. Each anthem draws on the Bible readings for the day, providing another expression of the Word being shared.

The choir sings in four-part harmony, with sopranos carrying the melody and altos, tenors, and basses providing harmony. While the choir comes to the front of the congregation to share its anthems, members return to the pews during worship to join the congregation in singing.

Rehearsal

Wednesdays at 7:15 p.m.

If you enjoy singing and want to use your voice in worship, we'd love to have you join us.

Handbell Choir

Our Handbell Choir brings joyful sounds to worship through handbells and chimes throughout the church year.

The choir performs music for seasons and celebrations including Christmas, Lent, and Easter, as well as a variety of other musical selections. The choir has even performed patriotic music for the Fourth of July.

At TLC, music and the visual elements of worship work together. Handbell members wear colors representing the current season of the church year, reflecting the colors used in the altar banners.

The Handbell Choir offers special musical performances throughout the year and provides another opportunity to use musical gifts in service to God and the congregation.

Rehearsal

Wednesdays at 6:00 p.m.

If you have a passion for music and would enjoy learning to ring, we invite you to become part of the Handbell Choir.

The TLC GO Band

The GO Band, meaning Growth & Outreach, brings contemporary music to TLC's worship ministry.

The band debuted on September 14, 2008, during the very first contemporary GO Worship Service. It was created with a mission to reach the community through modern worship styles.

The GO Band uses dynamic contemporary music as a way to connect people, serve our community, and grow the Kingdom of God.

Worship Service

Sundays at 10:00 a.m.

Come worship with us and experience contemporary music as part of our shared life of faith.

TLC Children’s Choir

Joyful Voices, Growing Faith

Our Children's Choir helps our youngest worshipers discover the joy of music, worship, and community.

Through fun and uplifting songs and simple musical foundations, children learn what it means to use their gifts to praise God, encourage the congregation, and shine their light.

Whether they are singing during worship, preparing for special seasonal programs, or simply praising God together, every child has a place to make a joyful noise!

Rehearsal

Wednesdays from 4:00–4:45 p.m.

We welcome children who want to learn, sing, worship, and grow together.

One Ministry, Many Ways to Serve

You don't have to be a professional musician to be part of TLC's Music Ministry.

Our ministry welcomes anyone who is interested, and church membership is not required. Participants range from approximately 11 to 90 and beyond, bringing different experiences, abilities, and musical gifts together.

You can participate as a:

  • Vocalist

  • Handbell ringer

  • Instrumentalist

  • Children's Choir member

  • GO Band musician

  • Supporter of the Music Ministry

The ability to read music notation can be helpful, and training is available as needed. Regular participation is encouraged, while we understand that people occasionally need to miss a rehearsal or service.

Most importantly, we want people to use their gifts to serve God and encourage one another.

Music in Worship

Our Music Ministry supports the worship life of TLC throughout the year.

Musicians contribute to worship through:

  • Choral anthems
  • Congregational singing
  • Handbells and chimes
  • Instrumental music
  • Seasonal music
  • Special musical performances
  • Traditional Lutheran worship
  • Contemporary worship

Our traditional 8:30 a.m. worship service incorporates the rich musical heritage of Lutheran worship, including sung liturgy, hymns, organ music, choir, and handbells.

Our contemporary 10:00 a.m. GO Worship Service uses modern worship music to reach people through a different musical expression while keeping Christ at the center.

Together, these musical ministries help us worship across generations and styles while sharing the same purpose: to glorify God and serve His people.

A Ministry of Worship and Service

“Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all the earth: make a loud noise, and rejoice, and sing praise.”

— Psalm 98:4
